Repair Your Broken PCR Temperature Verification Probe
Broken probe tip? Dead temperature channel? Intermittent readings? Damaged ribbon cable?
Lab Liquidators repairs Alpha Technics and Eutechnics PCR block temperature verification probes used with Model 4680, 4690, and 4690A thermometer systems.
These precision probe assemblies are fragile, expensive, and increasingly difficult to replace. A cracked sensor, broken conductor, or damaged cable can render an otherwise functional PCR temperature verification kit unusable.
Before scrapping the probe or purchasing another complete verification kit, send it to us for evaluation.
Alpha Technics PCR Probe Repair Services
We evaluate and have experience repairing single-probe and multiprobe temperature verification assemblies used to test PCR thermal cyclers, real-time PCR instruments, and heated sample blocks.
Common failures include:
-Cracked or broken temperature probe tips
-One or more dead measurement channels
-Intermittent readings when the cable is moved
-Broken conductors inside the ribbon cable
-Crimped, cut, or fatigued ribbon cables
-Damaged connectors or connector pins
-Failed strain relief
-Loose sensors
-Physical damage to the probe plate or fixture
-Unstable, erratic, or implausible temperature readings
-Damage caused during insertion, removal, storage, or shipment
We inspect the probe assembly, locate the failure, and determine whether a durable repair is practical.

Why Repair the Existing Probe?
Legacy Alpha Technics probes are no longer ordinary catalog items. Certain versions are discontinued, unavailable for online ordering, or found only as used components from incomplete verification kits.
Repairing the original assembly may:
-Cost substantially less than replacing an entire verification kit
-Preserve compatibility with your existing 4680, 4690, or 4690A thermometer
-Avoid purchasing an untested used probe
-Return a scarce legacy system to service
-Reduce downtime while searching for discontinued hardware
-Prevent a repairable precision assembly from becoming electronic waste
The probe you already own is usually the best compatibility reference.
Our Repair Process
1. Send the Identification Information
Provide:
-Probe or kit part number
-Alpha Technics thermometer model
-Serial number, when available
-PCR instrument or block model
-Clear photographs of the probe tips
-Photographs of both sides of the assembly
-Photographs of the connector and cable
-Description of the failure
-Channel numbers or readings showing the problem
2. Receive Shipping Instructions
Contact Lab Liquidators before shipping. The probe must be clean and appropriately decontaminated.
Pack the probe carefully. Protect every sensor tip from lateral force, crushing, and movement inside the box. Do not coil, fold, or sharply bend the ribbon cable.
3. Evaluation and Repair Quote
We inspect the probe and determine:
-Which channels have failed
-Whether the fault is in the sensor, conductor, ribbon cable, connector, or fixture
-Whether previous repairs or physical damage are present
-Whether the assembly can be repaired reliably
-Expected repair cost and scope
4. Repair and Testing
Approved repairs may include sensor work, conductor repair, cable repair, connector repair, strain-relief restoration, and mechanical stabilization.
Your quote will describe the testing and documentation included with the repair.
Repair and metrological calibration are not automatically the same service. Any calibration, certification, traceability, or measurement documentation included will be stated explicitly in the quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you repair a probe with one dead channel?
Often, yes. The repairability depends on whether the failure is located in the sensor tip, ribbon conductor, connector, or another accessible portion of the assembly.
Can you repair a probe with several failed channels?
Potentially. Multiple failed channels may indicate localized physical damage, a crushed cable, connector damage, or broader deterioration. Send the observed readings and photographs for evaluation.
Can you repair an intermittent Alpha Technics probe?
Intermittent failures are commonly associated with conductor fatigue, cable damage, connector problems, or previous mechanical stress. These failures can be more difficult to isolate, but they are frequently worth evaluating.
Do you repair both 4680 and 4690 systems?
Our primary service is repair of the block probe, multiprobe module, cable, and associated probe assembly. Ask us about complete Model 4680, 4690, or 4690A thermometers when submitting your request.
Does probe repair include calibration?
No. Repair restores the physical and electrical function of the assembly. Calibration determines and documents its measurement performance.
What should I ship?
Do not ship anything until we confirm the required components. Depending on the failure, we may request the probe alone or the probe together with its Alpha Technics thermometer.
What if my part number is not listed?
Send photographs and all visible numbers. Alpha Technics manufactured several revisions and customer-specific assemblies that are poorly documented online.
Are you affiliated with Alpha Technics, Applied Biosystems, or Thermo Fisher Scientific?
No. Lab Liquidators LLC is an independent equipment repair and resale company. All manufacturer names, model names, and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
